Arthur Bawin joins the group

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Arthur Bawin, who joins the group as a Research Associate working on mesh generation and adaptation as part of the REMODEL programme grant.

Arthur’s work is on metric-based anisotropic mesh adaptation for curved, high-order elements. Most adaptation machinery assumes straight-sided simplices, so the notion of a “unit” element that drives the whole process has to be rethought before it can describe a curved one. His recent paper in SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, Isometric simplices for high-order anisotropic mesh adaptation, does exactly that, recasting unit and quasi-unit simplices in terms of Riemannian isometries. That sits directly alongside the mesh generation and adaptation strand of REMODEL, and alongside the curvilinear meshing work already going on here with NekMesh.
